Built-in, column, and panel-ready

Same kitchen, three ways people describe the refrigerator. We repair all three.

Built-in

A built-in refrigerator is made to sit in a cabinet opening, usually flush with the counters, instead of standing out like a box from the store. Doors, grilles, and service access are part of the kitchen, so we work carefully around the cabinetry.

Column

A column is a tall, separate refrigerator or freezer cabinet. Many Newport Beach and Costa Mesa kitchens run a fridge column next to a freezer column. Each side has its own cooling circuit, so one side can fail while the other still looks fine.

Panel-ready

Panel-ready means the doors take custom cabinet panels so the unit matches the rest of the kitchen. The appliance behind the panels is still a built-in refrigerator or column. We remove and refit panels only as needed for access.

Common built-in refrigerator problems

Symptom, likely cause, then book or call. We quote after on-site diagnosis.

Not cooling

Fridge or freezer warm, food at risk.

Common causes are a dirty condenser, a failed fan, a temperature sensor or control fault, or a sealed-system problem. We measure before we replace anything.

Ice maker problems

No ice, small cubes, or water on the ice.

Water supply, a frozen fill tube, the inlet valve, or the ice maker itself. We check supply and freezer temperature first.

Frost buildup

Ice on the back wall, evaporator, or around the door.

Often a door that is not sealing, a defrost fault, or warm air leaking into a built-in cabinet. We find why frost is forming before we talk about parts.

Door gaskets

Door does not close fully, frost, or sweating.

Worn gaskets and door alignment let warm air in and make the unit work harder. We check the seal all the way around, including panel-ready doors.

Dual-compressor and sealed-system

One side warm, the other cold, or both struggling.

Many built-in and column units have two compressors. Diagnosis comes first: we isolate which circuit failed and whether a simpler part, not a sealed-system repair, will fix it.

Brands we repair

Why diagnosis matters

Sealed-system work is real, but it is not the first answer.

A built-in refrigerator that is not cooling may have a dirty condenser, a stuck fan, a bad sensor, a gasket leak, or a sealed-system fault. Those jobs do not cost the same and do not use the same parts. We test temperatures, airflow, and electrical circuits on site, then quote before any work starts.

Sealed-system repair (compressors, evaporators, refrigerant leaks) is done by an EPA Section 608 Universal certified technician. We confirm the fault before recommending sealed-system work versus a simpler component fix. Original or manufacturer-approved parts where available.

FAQ

How much is the service call?

In Orange County the standard service call is $75, weekdays 8 AM to 6 PM, next day or later. It covers the trip and the on-site diagnosis, and it is waived if you go ahead with the repair. All prices.

Do some areas cost more?

Edge-of-county ZIPs, including San Clemente and Lake Elsinore, are $95, also waived if you go ahead with the repair. Catalina Island (Avalon) is $150 plus the ferry cost, not waived. Chatsworth, Big Bear and Murrieta are $150 by appointment, not waived. The full ZIP list is in the price table.

What do same-day and after-hours visits cost?

A same-day priority visit adds $50 to the service call, when the route allows. Evenings after 6 PM, Saturday, Sunday and holidays add $75 to the service call.

How do repair quotes work?

The technician diagnoses the appliance on site and quotes the repair, parts and labor together, before any work starts. You decide whether to go ahead. If you do, the service call fee is waived in standard and edge-of-county areas.

Is the repair under warranty?

Repairs carry a warranty of up to 90 days. The exact terms for your repair are written on your invoice.

Are you factory-authorized?

No. A.A. Repairs is an independent repair company, not a factory-authorized service center. Brand names are trademarks of their owners.

Do you work on sealed systems?

Yes. Sealed-system repair (compressors, evaporators, refrigerant leaks) is done by an EPA Section 608 certified technician. We confirm the fault before recommending sealed-system work versus a simpler component fix.
